My computer's breaking apart. It went through a frightening error routine when I started it this morning and then didn't want to shut down before I left to work. I'm not completely sure it will wake up when I get back home. Now I have the nice decision to make - do I buy a new computer and risk being unable to pay for heating oil, or do I save for the heating oil and risk being without computer? I don't like my choices.

Day's not starting well in any other sense either. I forgot to put on alarm so I didn't have time to wash my hair before work (and that shows), there's something wrong with SSH connections, mainly that you can't establish them (which means I can't get to irc and as such can't talk with my darling), I'm working on the shittiest book series invented by man and the day is about to become unbearably hot. Also, the pet shop still hasn't called back about the rats for my snakes. If I don't get a call today, I'm going to have to risk feeding Ankh another enormous rat and hope she can take it.

Hermione LDWS: Challenge 4 voting
Challenge 4 - Carpe Diem - voting is open here, and again, several of the entries are fantastic - choosing is getting harder and harder.

Also, same as last time, I'll offer a drabble ([info]snogged, yours is coming tomorrow) to the first one who can guess which one's mine. You don't have to vote for me to qualify, just leave your guess in a screened comment below. Also just like last time, I won't be answering any of the comments until the poll is closed, just FYI.

Why is it that it's always late at night/early in the morning that I finally get the motivation to work on things?

I'm making a zine for the docent program over the summer, as that's our assignment. A Zine is basically a self published hand made miniature magazine of whatever the hell you want it to be. Basically it's a book or collection of stuff that is...anything you want. So, I was going to get started and basically make an artists book.

But it's already midnight...I was really motivated at 2 in the morning last night too.

I know if I work late at night, though, I'll get yelled at :X

And the basement (my little workspace) is kinda wierd at night when it's all quiet :/

Gotta clean my room.
Right, so, yeah. I keep saying it, because I haven't cleaned my room... in a very long time. I have an Easter basket in here somewhere, and not the one from this last Easter, but the one before. There's two computer monitors on my floor for PC's that died. The only reason my bed is made is because my grandmother gave me a feather tick and I wanted to use it straight away. There are still pictures of random anime series' (Gundam Wing, Weiss, Kenshin, Card Captors, Digimon, Gravitation... I can go on, y'know) taped to my walls, which I put up just after I moved in. Not to mention my Harry Potter 2 poster. Wow. It's seriously been a long time.

I've had a bookshelf waiting for me for a couple months now. All I've gotta do is clean up the mess and get rid of my old desk. The damn things falling apart anyways, and I never used it. So, yeah, I should clean up and put up some of the posters I've gotten more recently. My sister found an interview with Jared Padalecki about New York Minute in one of her teeny-bopper magazines and she was kind enough to give me one of her Drake Bell tear outs, too.

Hmm. I wonder how long it'd take? Two, three hours?

just another day in american programming
Frustration!

Tooling about the interweb I found an article about a new television show called "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" which was getting good reviews. Curious, I found it, and am only within the first 15 minutes but I'm already annoyed and wondering if it's worth my time to finish it. Ignoring the fact that the kids spout statistics in every other line, the terrible (rudimentary) plot flow, it absolutely smacks you in the face with, "Oh, hey, did you know that in the United States everyone is Christian? Oh, you mean, not everyone is? That's okay, I'll tell you what values you should have in every other part spoken so you won't feel left out."

And, because in posts like these, people get ridiculous, I am merely saying, in plain English, while I know everyone isn't like this, I don't enjoy having this shoved in my face by writers and networks. If they're going to write a show about teen pregnancy, write a show about teen pregnancy. Don't make it a show about religion with a side of teen pregnancy.

That said, the entire show reads like a public service announcement. I expect a shooting star to come across at any moment, happy having imparted ethical living suggestions. Case in point... )

Unbelievable!
My whole State spent the whole day without Internet due to a mysterious problem in the telephone system. Can you imagine that?

I worked all day on my final term paper. Now that my Internet is back, I'm tired and going to bed. I'll reply to your comments tomorrow.

But mostly Criminal Intent, because I'm obsessed with Vincent D'Onofrio.

Oh Prince Caspian...
Well, I just got back from Prince Caspian, and despite very slight navigational difficulties (the theater was located in, like, a ghost strip mall, and we broke out the GPS to figure out where the theater was once we were basically in the parking lot) and missing a minute or five, the movie was very satisfying.  When Edmond kicked some ass with his sword in the beginning, I knew it was going to be pretty kickass.  Edmond was my favorite character in this one, from this moment to his destruction of the threat of the White Witch again, his infiltration of the castle, and his acting as Peter's emissary and support in the single combat. Merble.

Lilly and I agreed, however, that the male fantasy authors do not realize that good endings involve coupledom.  I'm not saying the HP epilogue was great, but everyone was married off.  Cf. Frodo (though I guess Eowyn and Faramir, and Aragorn and Arwen end up together. Not so sure about that punctuation, but I didn't want to imply anything dodgy) and Susan.

So I'm keeping an eye on the weather, and fireworks may be in my future.

I cannot even...
So... I'm cleaning out my closet. I'm planning a yard sale to fundraise for D*C, and I have tons of stuff I'll never wear again. Or at least, I used to think I'd never wear them again. Until I decided to try on a pair of my old jeans on a lark... Just to see how far I still have to go.

The last pair of jeans I bought that fit me properly were size 13. I bought the size 11 pair I mentioned previously, because they were tight, and I wanted to diet into them. I think I've more than managed that, at this point. I can pull the damn things off without undoing the button. But I had no idea...

I'm sitting at my computer, right this very moment, comfortably wearing a pair of size 7 jeans. I haven't worn these jeans in at least 6 years. Now, granted, they're a little tight around the waist. I'll even go so far as to say I've got a bit of a muffin-top going on, so I wouldn't actually wear them in public, yet. But they go right on, button easily, and I can breathe in them. The fit on my butt, hips, and legs is as perfect as any pair of jeans I've ever worn.
I know part of it is that these jeans are basically molded to fit my shape, but still. A year ago, I would have said that I'd never manage to fit into these jeans, again.

The funny thing is, I haven't lost any weight in the last 2 weeks. I've hit a plateau, apparently. Or I've done all I can by changing my diet, alone. I need to buckle down and start exercizing more often, if I want to lose any more weight this summer.

But little things like this..? Fitting into the jeans I wore at the point where I was the happiest with my body that I've ever been..? THAT is a huge incentive to work harder.

Com'on and Move it Move it
Welll.. moving is going.  I picked up some great funiture from a coworker and moved that into the apartment yesterday.  That went well.  Dad incessently telling me over dinner how I have to really make sure I get my stuff out quickly (while I had just been having my own private freakout over the fact that there is no way everything will be packed by Saturday) to the point where I lost my appitiate and spent dinner packing instead... Not so great.  He apoligized later but yeah.  I can't wait to get everything into my apartment and set up.  Its just that the process of doing so is stressful.

Sooooo on a different note--

Name any fandom, and I'll tell you the following:

1. The first character I fell in love with.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer.
6. The character I would shag anytime.
7. The character I'd want to be like.
8. The character I'd slap.
9. A pairing that I love.
10. A pairing that I hate.

This morning I signed my last check for my loan from law school. I'm so glad to be done with it. And I got the second of my annual raises, which I won't see until my first paycheck in August. But still, woohoo! Now I can funnel all of my money into the house-fund.

Also in the Woohoo! category, my 3-day weekend starts today at 5:00pm. Thank you, 4th of July, for being on a weekday so that I get an extra day off. My time will be spent working like mad on Leia, Jean, and Haseo's boots, but a day off is still a day off.

In other news...

I'm trying to decide between three variations of a phrase.

"Je suis la Mort Rouge qui passe!" is the original phrase in it's original French.

"I am the Red Death that passes!" is the translation of the French.

"Don't touch me! I am Red Death stalking abroad!" is the phrase in the English version of the book.

Out of all of them, I like the third one the best. It is also the longest of them and will require the most embroidery. Although with this, a little more embroidery on the cloak isn't going to make a damn bit of difference.
